weekend fun

David and I had a great weekend. He was able to study on Saturday. Then we went to a graduation party for the girlfriend of a friend in med school. Carly ("the girlfriend") and I have been hanging out- and recently she's said I can swim with Bentley in her parent's pool anytime- and I learned Saturday they keep the pool at 80 degrees- they don't have to ask me twice! Then we came home and watched Wall-E. Such a cute movie! Sunday we had church- which is always good. I had prepared all week to teach the 4-6 grade about justification- but then all the older kids didn't show- it's the season of traveling. So I went to service- our small group leader and discipleship pastor, Matt, preached. It was a good message- about the expectations of the kingdom. He outlined some verses in Matthew where Jesus talks about what the kingdom is like. Then after church we snuck off to Borders downtown. They are closing the Borders and so books are 40% off and movies are 50% off. Nice. And to top it off we had an anonymous donor offer to help us purchase some reading material. So I have a stack of books to read this summer! YEAH! Then we went to Nate and Kristen's for lunch. Nate is in med school and Kristen is working on becoming a certified dietitian- she just has to take a test or something. They are also the proud parents of 12 week old Aoife (EE-FAH). I had a hard time liking the name at first (sorry Kristen, I know you read this:) But now when I hold her, she's simply, Aoife, and simply beautiful. :) And then we had dinner with Chris and Leigh's small group. I slept all afternoon- gotta love the first trimester! Then after dinner we definitely heard the loudest gun shot ever- probably a shut gun. It was so LOUD! And when we went on our back porch we could smell the gun powder- followed by an emergency response vehicle about 5 min. later. That's actually the first gunshot I have heard since living in Detroit.... contrary to what people were preparing me for.
So GM just filed for bankruptcy this morning. When I was in Arizona I never thought about the importance of buying American- or at least considering the idea- I was always- buy Toyota! But after living in Ann Arbor- and now Detroit- I've learned a lot about the importance of it. Almost all our friends who aren't in med. school work for the auto industry in one way or another. So this is going to be another hard blow to Michigan- and Detroit. I hear they (GM) might vacate the Ren. Center. That would suck. More abandonment.
Anyway, I am rambling.

Buying American is always important, but also important is to check what percentage of the vehicle is actually made in the States. I know that I work for an 'American' automotive supply company, but the directive from The Powers That Be is to move all of our manufacturing plants to third world countries. :o/

Buying American is stupid, no offense Rachel. Bankruptcy is sad but to buy an inferior product just because the company that owns it is American is dumb. Toyotas are manufactured in America too.

Also, if you liked Wall-E, you should check out Up...it is amazing. Jane and I both really liked it.

Well even if I can't fix the problems of the world- I am glad to know that I can still buy Toyota. :) David and I actually had just discussed that after I read Rachel's comment.
