Baja Bound!

When we got settled in Tucson in 2015 I made a list of all the places I want to travel with our kids before they graduate high school. I know it sounds crazy, but I also know if you don't plan these things out- they don't happen. Two years ago we took our tent and traveled to San Felipe in northern Baja for a long weekend and the kids had an amazing time. We decided that after we moved and settled in we'd try for round two- this time getting to some of the beautiful places in Baja! And here we are! In true Crawford style it has been with some setbacks- including 10 days ago I realized we needed passports for the kids. Long story short you only need birth certificates when you drive to northern Mexico with kids- but if you go further down and need a tourist visa the Mexican government requires passports... I almost thought we'd either wing it and pray no one cared or would find a different place to go. However, I found an office in Tucson that does emergency passports within 14 days of travel for an extra fee- and BOOM! THREE passports! We now have all our visas paid for and printed.

We also have a loose travel itinerary:

BAJA 2019 ITINERARY

Friday March 22 Calexico, US

Saturday 3/23  San Felipe Punta Estrella Carretera Federal Km. 13, San Felípe, B.C., Mexico

After driving about 5 KMS you will reach a point where you sign in for entrance to the salt flats. (Note the crusted salt and the lakes of salt water.) Continue for another 20 KMS and veer right as indicated by the signs. Proceed to the gate some 3 KMS further, An easy drive for any size rig.)

Tuesday 3/26-Friday 3/29 Mulege Hacienda De La Habana

(To find the place turn right on Icehouse Road, head west and follow the signs for RV Park.)

Friday 3/29 Bahia de Los Angeles Vermilion Field Station

Saturday 3/30 San Felipe Punta Estrella Carretera Federal Km. 13, San Felípe, B.C., Mexico

Sunday 3/31 Cross the border and head home

Next up I'll share some of the organizing we are doing because there are couple important facts about this trip:
1. we are sleeping in a tent
2. we are not bringing technology other than the camera on our phones.
